Imagine you are working on a really hard puzzle. You have been working on it for many years.

Eventually, you invite a new collaborator to help. Together, you make progress on part of the puzzle, but are unable to solve the whole picture.

This is a puzzle many others are trying to solve. Some of them also have partnered with that collaborator. They (in turn) are able to make their own progress, but also not solve the puzzle.

The collaborator then shares snippets of these collaborations with a mentee. The mentee sees the big picture and quickly pieces the puzzle together.
